About Coolmine Drama Circle
The acorn that grew into the oak of Coolmine Drama Circle was planted when Sean O'Beachain, principal of Coolmine Community School urged Dick Wafer to present an adult drama module during evening classes in 1972.
This chance meeting resulted in our very first performance "The Country Boy" by John Murphy in April 1973. It was staged-managed by Tony Proudfoot firstly on wooden pallets in the library of Coolmine Community School and later in Castleknock College. Today our shows are held at Draiocht theatre, Blanchardstown.
Since then, the group has presented no less than 65 productions, locally nationwide, England and Wales.( Check out our Past Productions page).
During the last 39 years, we have carved out a reputation for high quality performance art, winning awards both together and for individual performances in venues as far apart as Cork, Cavan and Wales.
Coolmine Drama Circle started competing in the Drama Festival Circuit in Ireland in the 1980s and has enjoyed considerable success on the one act and three act festival circuit.
Many in the group would contend however, that the real valued success of the group has been the provision of quality theatre at local level by local people many of whom were reared far from the smell of grease paint.
